JFES Students Set Their Curious Minds on the Future: Career Day 2025

3 students cut their hair to donate

Stoddard students spent their last full-day of school exploring careers thanks to 13 different local volunteers who spent the morning with us. Leading up to Career Day, School Counselor Heather Salter helped all grades K-5 students complete a career interest inventory to help identify their interests and aptitudes to inform their selections for Career Day. Students each selected and attended 5 sessions ranging from a fence builder and ski lift mechanic, to nurses, a doctor, and a lawyer and numerous specialists in between. Students experienced hands-on activities like hammering part of a fence, using stethoscopes to listen to each others’ hearts, designing logos, and practicing CPR on training mannequins. A highlight was a planking contest during the Army National Guard sessions in which 8 students were able to maintain a plank position for over 6 minutes. Another highlight from the Styles by Suzi sessions, three students had their hair cut to donate to Children With Hair Loss and learned about repurposing donated hair.

Mrs. Salter said, “It was such a great experience for our students to be able to participate in these sessions and connect their current learning to future career goals. It was also great to see students apply some of the Purposeful People character traits we have emphasized all year including empathy, perseverance, creativity, and courage.”

As always, JFES students made the staff proud because of what welcoming hosts and thoughtful and engaged participants they were.
